While visiting Pittsburgh on a chilly, rainy evening, we were looking for a warm and hearty meal to "hit the spot." We read the overwhelmingly positive reviews for Angkor, a traditional Cambodian/Thai restaurant, so we were convinced to check it out. We were met at the door by an energetic and friendly young gentlemen. There were 3 groups already seated at tables and people kept on trickling in throughout the evening which indicated to us that this was quite a popular place among locals. Service was a bit slow but we figured this more than acceptable given the delicious food that followed. For starters, we ordered the Na-taings, which are Cambodian deep fried puff rice squares which have more than enough surface area to pile on the curried pork concoction that came with the appetizer. Although we were tempted to order the Thai options on the menu, we opted to share a Cambodian dish called Saramann, which is slow cooked beef in a coconut, peanut and lemon grass curry. We were asked about our heat level preference and chose a 7 on a 10 point scale. The succulent beef cubes were so tender and the curry was flavourful, had a rich, earthy, peanut taste and was exactly the right spice we were looking for to warm up from outside and have our mouths breathing fire like dragons. Of course, we got exactly what we asked for and enjoyed every minute of the heat. We got an order of the Thai red ice tea to cool off our mouths. It was absolutely delicious and apparently a bit sweeter than the green Thai ice tea option. We'd highly recommend trying Angkor if you're looking for something unique, traditional, flavourful and spicy. If the Cambodian food is any indication of how the Thai food is, you'll surely be in for a treat if you choose either.

Passing through the area and was craving Thai/Cambodian food. This little hole in the wall certainly hit the spot. Spring rolls were recommended by the waiter and while I could tell the veggies and the wrap were fresh, the chicken was a little dry. Nonetheless the sauce was sweet and paired well with the dish. Green curry is a dish I try at every thai restaurant I can. Angkor does it well and fills it with many veggies (green beans, potatoes, onions, carrots, celery, peppers, bamboo). No complaints of the chicken in this dish and I would order it again. I enjoyed the texture and spice level (3 peppers on the menu, nothing crazy spicy). Contrary to some restaurants nowadays, a generous amount of white rice was included with the curry. Would definitely come back and try some of the other traditional dishes.

We had a good experience everything was good just a bit more sweeter side to my taste. But with steam rice it balanced it well until our belly gets full. Then the tea was great to help wash down the oils and sweetness of the food.

I really love good, “authentic” Thai food… I saw good reviews for this place and I noticed that it’s got a Cambodian flare, so I gave it a try on a weeknight. Service was excellent! Very friendly, accommodating, and helpful. The venue is beautifully decorated and very nice! The menu is pretty interesting, with many items I had never heard of, so I assumed they might have been Cambodian. I tried their C6, Moarn Chha Kroeung dish, because I love the influence of lemongrass, especially in Thai flavors. I also looked up ahead of time what this dish should look like, which is “pasty” in the texture of the sauce, rather than “saucy” and that showed me it would be pungent and flavorful. What I got when I visited was very saucy and more “American Chinese” style sauce. Flavors were just ok, nothing like what I imagined from looking at the recipe. To go with this, I ordered their Basil Fried Rice, as this is a fav of mine at Thai joints. What I got was wet and sticky, not at all resembling any good fried rice I’ve ever had. The flavor was decent, with basil infusion, but not spicy at all (which is should be). I will say their spices they give you to kick things up are rather legit! So, you definitely will get the heat you seek here!! I did start with some veggie Tom Yum without mushroom. The broth was nicely done, but the veggie was simply diced tomato, so the soup was literally broth with diced tomato…. Not bad, but not what I expected. Overall, I can see why many would give this place a high rating, the service and atmosphere were great! Flavors are present, but far from bold. But in a town with little “authentic” Asian restaurants (there’s only one I know of in Pittsburgh, which is ChengDu Gourmet and only one absolutely amazing new-age Thai, which is Pusadee’s Garden), I can see why people might feel what they’re doing here is worthy of 5- stars… But for me, I seek more originality and preciseness with the preparation.

The waiter was super kind and the food was delicious! We had an early dinner so it was empty when we arrived but by the time we left, the place was filling up. The decor of the restaurant was probably my favorite thing about it; I wish I had taken pictures of it. Absolutely gorgeous. I would eat here again! Special thanks to the waiter for allowing me to catch up with friends for far longer than we should’ve stayed after we finished eating!

Tasty, vibes, ambience, and chill. Place was fire, you can't really go wrong with the food selection, ask for a recommendation based on your tastes and the waiter. We got a bunch of stuff and every single one was an absolute banger. The inside is filled with traditional art, the tables the chairs everything feels unique and contributes to the restaurant. GET THE ICE TEA, their ice tea is DELICIOUS. 100% will be coming here again.
